Former Pittsburgh police commander tapped to return as city's new police chief

Mayor-elect Corey O'Connor has nominated Jason Lando, a former police commander, to serve as Pittsburgh's next police chief. The move aims to bring stability to the police force, which has faced turnover in recent years. Lando, a Pittsburgh native, returns to the city after serving as chief in Frederick, Maryland.

His stated priorities include reducing violent crime, focusing on community policing initiatives, and bolstering officer recruitment and wellness programs for the understaffed bureau. His appointment is pending City Council approval.
